Whisper (OpenAI)

The underlying model that many tools wrap.

MacWhisper

A local Mac app running Whisper on-device, at goodsnooze.gumroad.com/l/macwhisper. One-time purchase. "Good for heavy users."

Pinpoint (Google)

recorder.google.com (mobile), with a desktop variant too.

• Free.
• Up to 2 hours per file, with no limit on the number of files.
• Officially for journalists and students; in practice anyone can use it.

Letterly

A voice-to-text app. "Rave reviews on accuracy."

Nvidia Canary / Parakeet

Free ASR models. Canary 180m was being tested for Hebrew and Yiddish, and both are strong for Hebrew and English. Requires technical setup.

ivrit.ai

transcribe.ivrit.ai, free Hebrew transcription.

Workflow

1. Record (phone voice memo, Zoom, lavalier).
2. Pick the tool by language and budget.
3. Transcribe.
4. Hand the transcript to Claude for summarization, a shiur outline, or action-item extraction.
